Match Report by Maureen Masson
The match opened with both teams working really hard for possession. Atomics started strong showing great improvement from the last time these two teams met. However they were no match for the Atoms who opened scoring very quickly. Play continued to be quite even but Atomics struggled to covert this into goals and Atoms continued to score utilising a strong defence which fed the ball up to a well oiled scoring circle team. Atomics continued to keep pressure on Atoms throughout the quarter. Atomics scored a lovely goal towards the end of the quarter set up with some lovely defending, however the quarter ended with Atoms in the lead
The second quarter opened with an increased pace from both teams and Atomics pushing forward early on, however it was Atoms who opened the scoring. The pace of play slowed down slightly which appeared to go in Atoms favour. Atomics fought back with some lovely communication on the court Atoms rallied and brought the play back into their side of the court scoring several more goals. Atomics did end the quarter well with the final goal which showed some lovely play within the circle.
The third quarter again opened with an increased pace with Atoms opening the scoring again and as Atoms slowed the play down and with the help of some lovely defending they were able to set up several more goals. Atomics refused to lie down and kept the pressure on especially with some lovely play in the centre and defence but Atoms continued to dominate the quarter. Atomics did manage to get through the Atoms defence to score a lovely goal but again this quarter ended with Atoms as the better team.
Atoms again opened the last quarter with a lovely goal, helped by much better communication on the court. Atoms pushed with more interventions and good defending against Atomics who continued to keep the pressure up. Atoms didn’t give up and pushed hard to get several more goals in this final quarter. The game finished with Atoms winning 61 – 5 for Atomics but the score line did not show how even the teams were at times.
