Atomics VS Atoms

Aberdeen Atomics stormed onto their first match after the mid season break. A full team for what was set to be an epic game against team mates and rivals Atoms.
Quarter one saw a very new Atomics team facing the more experienced Atoms side; Atomics have come a long way in their abilities and the confidence showed as they took to court.
The first quarter started off well with solid passing from Atomics to gain control of the ball. Atoms held the position well and passes strong making atomics work hard to interceptions. Penalty pass to the Atoms showed them scoring. Good marking from the Atomics Goal Defence seen the GD block Atoms from scoring. Strong, swift and efficient passes from centre court from both teams. A pretty even quarter, Atomics taking more possession, ending in 9-3 to the Atoms.
After a good team talk at quarter time, the Atomics went on to the second quarter looking much more motivated. The court was more balanced, and players really started to try to put training into practice. Julia provided excellent support to the shooting circle and the centre court, driving forward as necessary and reading the game well. Webber executed some superb interceptions, and was a key player in closing down the opposition’s centre passes. Some great defending, marking and shooting from the centre. The Atomics came through the second quarter again with the most possession, however the score ended 18 – 4 to Atoms.
The third quarter saw the game dynamics turn more serious as the Atoms made a few changes to their team! Atoms seemed to step up the court possession with excellent play from their centre, goal shooter and goal attack in the shooting circle and end third. Beautiful passes down the court seen Atomics tiredness and weaknesses start to show. The Atomics side seemed to quiet down with a few free passes and penalties to Atoms. However the Atomics WD did have a few great interceptions. Atoms had tactical positioning throughout this quarter.
The final quarter showed Atomics take back the court possession with strong passes, good defending, and marking. Ultimately the Atoms team were the stronger team. However, Atomics showed their strong skills. The Atomics team really came together with all the training paying off in their play. The final score at the end of a very enjoyable match was 61 – 5 to Atoms.
