Aberdeen Atoms vs Uni 4 – Wednesday 26th March 2014 – Cults Academy 7:15pm
Match Report by Maureen Masson
The match opened with both teams working really hard for possession. Atoms clinched the first goal and the teamwork of Buckley and Waite showed through. Atoms defence showed the reactions of a cat when a uni ball was intercepted however this was often not followed through with some lost passes due to poorer and quick passes. The quarter showed the teams s being quite equal with Atoms holding onto a lead of 10 -7 at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter opened with Atoms capitalising on a great interception following the Uni centre pass and immediately held the court. There was some rather awesome interceptions by Wilkie but Atoms struggled the convert that to a goal. Atoms struggled with coming forward which cost them a held ball which led to another goal for Uni. Atoms failed to capitalise on some good chances but there were some great interceptions by defence and the quarter finished with Atoms increasing their lead to 20-13.
The third quarter with Uni taking the rebound off Atoms centre pass but were unable to capitalise on this. Tight marking in the circle by Atoms worked to their advantage with Atoms stepping up their game, although some good interceptions form the Uni goal keeper keeping the pressure on Atoms shooters but Uni struggled to get the ball in their net. The quarter finished with Atoms increasing their lead to 29-15.
Atoms opened the last quarter with some good defending which kept Uni on their toes, the pace was quick and both sides fought for possession of the ball. After slowing the pace down a bit there were more chances for Atoms which produced more chances. Defence got a good rebound from Uni and pushed the ball up the court for Atoms to open the scoring in this quarter. The game became less fluid and there was less communication and a lot of Atoms players were in the same space, increased communication meant that more chances were produced and the passes got better. Atoms put pressure on Uni but they fought back keeping Atoms on their toes. Some good defending from Atoms meant that they dominated the quarter and finished their final match of the season with a good win. Score 41 – 17.
